There’s something about September that makes a coastal trip feel a little different. The busiest weeks of summer are over and the pace finally gets slower. This month is one of my favorite times of year to travel.
For a trip to the Polish Baltic coast, early autumn can be a good time to go. The days can still feel pleasantly mild, while the Baltic Sea has had the whole summer to warm up. It’s exactly the same here in the Stockholm archipelago, where I live. At the same time, travelling outside the main summer season can make it so much easier to find lower prices and a quieter atmosphere. Sopot, on Poland’s Baltic coast, is one of those places that works perfectly when you want to stretch summer just a little bit longer.

September by the Baltic: Slow Days at Hotel Haffner’s SPA & Wellness Institute
#1. Why September works for a Baltic getaway
I have always liked, and still promote, the idea of travelling just outside the main season. There is something satisfying about arriving somewhere after the summer crowds have started to disappear. In Sopot, September offers the possibility of combining days by the coast with the slower rhythm of an autumn city break. You can spend time outdoors when the weather cooperates, then have a backup plan for the cooler or rainy days.
A spa stay can turn an ordinary autumn weekend into something that feels more like a proper break. Instead of being dependent on sunshine from morning to evening, you have somewhere to unwind when the weather changes.
#2. A spa break at Hotel Haffner in Sopot
The SPA & Wellness Institute at Hotel Haffner fits naturally into a September trip. The spa area has been refreshed, creating an updated and comfortable setting for a few slower hours indoors. The swimming pool and sauna areas have also been refreshed, while a salt cave has been added to the facility.

The pool measures 15 x 8 x 1.7 metres and is free for hotel guests. It can be a simple way to start the day with a swim, but also comes in handy for families when the weather isn’t quite right for the beach.
One part of the stay that can be particularly useful after a day outdoors is the Hotel Haffner SPA, with its combination of pool, sauna and wellness facilities. The sauna zone includes both a dry sauna and a steam sauna, giving you a choice depending on what kind of break you are looking for.
#3. From swimming and sauna to a little more movement
A spa break does not necessarily have to mean spending the entire day doing nothing. The SPA & Wellness Institute also includes a gym, which is free for hotel guests. For anyone who does not normally spend much time in a gym, instructors are available to help beginners get started.
There is also a team of massage therapists, physiotherapists, beauticians and trainers working at the Institute. Treatments and recreation are focused on well-being, fitness and relaxation with equipment and cosmetics from established international brands.

For me, this kind of combination of activities and facilities makes perfectly sense on an autumn trip. One day might involve a long walk along the coast, another a few hours in the pool and sauna, and another simply taking the day as it comes.
#4. When the Baltic becomes part of the experience
Instead of trying to squeeze every possible summer activity into a short holiday, an early autumn trip can be about slowing down a little. Breathe, relax and unwind. There is still the sea, still the possibility of mild days outdoors and still plenty to see and do around Sopot. But there is also more space for those quieter moments in between.
#5. A different kind of Polish coast break
Sopot is easy to associate with summer holiday. I have been there a couple of times and love the white beaches, the sunshine and the long days by the Baltic. But the town does not suddenly lose its appeal when August is over. Quite the opposite, if what you are looking for is a few days away from everyday routines without having to wait for the next proper holiday. A September stay at Hotel Haffner offers a way to combine the coast with time for relaxation indoors. Swim in the pool, spend some time in the sauna, use the gym or simply make room for a treatment or two. And if the sun happens to come out, you can always head back towards the Baltic!
That is perhaps the nicest thing about extending summer into September. You don’t have to choose between a coastal holiday and a relaxing spa break. In Sopot, the two can quite easily become part of the same trip.
